Definition of social closening
: the practice of reconnecting in person with others following this unprecedented and unfamiliar period of social distancing.
Until March 2020, most people had never said the words “social distancing” - and now it’s a phrase used and an action taken worldwide by billions of people.
What happens after this period of “social distancing”?
SOCIAL CLOSENING.
After we have spent this quarantine-time avoiding direct contact with neighbors, workmates, classmates and extended family we will eventually reconnect and interact in public places in closer proximity once again. This is the important time-period of social closening, and the way in which we enter back into this period, carrying new trauma and triggers from this pandemic may have long-lasting effects on we process relationships and interactions, both with people familar and unfamiliar, as are reintroduced into close proximity with others.
